New Website Launched to Promote Public Input on Better Air Quality

The Council for Sustainable Development of Hong Kong today launched a new website to set the scene for its upcoming engagement process on better air quality.
Provisional Financial Results for the Year Ended March 31, 2007

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) announced today its provisional financial results for the year ended March 31, 2007.
Hong Kong Exchange Fund Totals US$156.86 Billion
April 30, 2007 -
Assets of the Hong Kong Exchange Fund totaled US$156.86 billion (HK$1,223.5 billion) on March 31, 2007. This is US$2.06 billion (HK$16.1 billion) lower than at the end of February 2007, according to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
Both Hong Kong and San Francisco are destinations on the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay

The San Francisco City Government announced at a press conference today (April 27) that San Francisco would be the only US stop during the Olympic Torch Relay preceding the 2008 Olympic Games. Doris Cheung, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office participated in the conference together with Gavin Newsom, Mayor of San Francisco; Ambassador Ke-yu Peng, Chinese Consul General in San Francisco; Robert Fasulo and Robert Ctvrtlik of the US Olympic Committee.
“Hong Kong Films’ Day” kicked off 10th anniversary celebration events in San Francisco

Hong Kong Government Reappoints Three Directors to Board of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing
April 26, 2007 - Hong Kong Financial Secretary Mr. Henry Tang today reappointed Messrs Marvin Cheung, Henry Fan and Fong Hup as members of the Board of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) for a term of two years.
Regional Air Quality Monitoring Network Results for 2006
April 24, 2007 - The Environmental Protection Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Guangdong Environmental Protection Bureau (GDEPB) today announced the 2006 report of monitoring results of the Pearl River Delta Regional Air Quality Monitoring Network, which covers 2006’s regional air pollution situation.
Hong Kong's Consumer Price Index Up 2.4% in March

Hong Kong's overall consumer prices rose 2.4% in March 2007 over a year earlier, according to the Composite Consumer Price Index (CPI) statistics released today by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG).

Hong Kong’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at a provisional 4.3% in the January - March 2007 period, unchanged from the previous three-month period.

Hong Kong's foreign currency reserves stood at US$135.4 billion at the end of March 2007, according to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, compared to US$136.2 billion at end-February 2007.
Granting of Banking License to Cathay Bank
April 10, 2007 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced today that it has granted a banking license to Cathay Bank (CB) under the Banking Ordinance. The granting of this banking license took effect on April 4, 2007.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government published in the Gazette today the Import and Export (Amendment) Bill 2007 seeking to enable the Chief Executive in Council to make regulations that provide for the electronic lodging of advance cargo information.
Government Welcomes Report on SFC's Annual Review of Hong Kong Stock Exchange's Performance

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today welcomed publication of the report on the Securities and Futures Commission's annual review of the Exchange's performance in its regulation of listing matters, covering the operation of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited in 2005.
