Hong Kong Exchange Fund Totals US$163.39 Billion
August 31, 2007 -
Assets of the Hong Kong Exchange Fund totaled US$163.39 billion (HK$1,274.5 billion) on July 31, 2007. This is US$2.26 billion (HK$17.6 billion) higher than at the end of June 2007, according to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
Financial Results for First Four Months of 2007-2008 Financial Year

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government had expenditure of US$9.5 billion (HK$74.1 billion) and revenue of US$10.12 billion (HK$78.9 billion) for the first four months of the 2007-2008 Financial Year, resulting in a surplus of US$615.38 million (HK$4.8 billion).

Edmond Lau Appointed to Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing Risk Management Committee

The Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has appointed Mr. Edmond Lau to succeed Mr. Eddie Yue as a member of the Risk Management Committee (RMC) of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx). The appointment, which is made under the Securities and Futures Ordinance, will run from September 1, 2007 to June 30, 2009.

Hong Kong’s Consumer Price Index Up 1.5% in July

Hong Kong’s overall consumer price index grew 1.5% in July 2007 compared to a year earlier, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures released by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG). This is higher than the 1.3% increase in June.
Government Welcomes Pilot Scheme for Mainland Individuals to Invest Directly in Hong Kong Securities

Hong Kong Financial Secretary John Tsang and the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), Joseph Yam, have welcomed the pilot scheme announced by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) for Mainland individuals to invest directly in securities in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong’s Second Quarter GDP Up 6.9%

Hong Kong’s economy expanded briskly in the second quarter of 2007, with GDP accelerating to a 6.9% growth in real terms compared to a year earlier, and up from a revised 5.7% in the first quarter.

IOC Gives Hong Kong Vote of Confidence

International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge said Hong Kong is on course to stage an “absolutely fabulous” Olympic equestrian event next year.
