Agreement reached on CEPA Expansion
June 29, 2007 -
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Central People's Government today agreed on further services liberalization and economic co-operation under the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA).

Hong Kong Exchange Fund Totals US$159.26 Billion

Assets of the Hong Kong Exchange Fund totaled US$159.26 billion (HK$1,242.2 billion) on May 31, 2007. This is US$1.44 billion (HK$11.2 billion) lower than at end-April, according to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
Financial Results for First Two Months of 2007-2008 Financial Year

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) had expenditure of US$4.73 billion (HK$36.9 billion) and revenue of US$5.37 billion (HK$41.9 billion) for the first two months of the 2007-2008 Financial Year, resulting in a surplus of US$641.03 million (HK$5 billion).

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Hong Kong Customs and Excise, Mr. Chow Kwong, and Deputy Director General of Guangdong Sub-administration of the General Administration of Customs, PRC, Mr. Zhao Min, today signed the “Memorandum on the Co-operative Arrangements between Hong Kong and Mainland Customs at Shenzhen Bay Port” to strengthen co-operation and enhance efficiency on customs clearance at the new control point at Shenzhen Bay Port.

Hong Kong's Consumer Price Index up 1.2% in May

Hong Kong's overall consumer prices rose 1.2% in May 2007 over a year earlier, according to the Composite Consumer Price Index (CPI) statistics released today by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG). This is smaller than the 1.3% increase in April.
Hong Kong's First Quarter GDP up 5.6%

Hong Kong’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased 5.6% in real terms in the first quarter of 2007 over a year earlier, compared with the 7.3% growth in the fourth quarter of 2006, according to the preliminary figures of constant price GDP by economic activity for the first quarter of 2007 released by the Census and Statistics Department today.
Hong Kong’s Unemployment Rate Stable at 4.3%
June 21, 2007 - Hong Kong’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at a provisional 4.3% in March – May 2007, unchanged from the previous three-month period, according to the latest labor force statistics released by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) today.

June 12, 2007 - A plot of government land in the West Kowloon Reclamation Area was sold for US$712.82 million (HK$5.56 billion) by the Lands Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today. This is the third land auction of the 2007-08 financial year.
