Exchange Fund Totals US$160.69 Billion

Assets of the Hong Kong Exchange Fund totaled US$160.69 billion (HK$1,253.4 billion) on April 30, 2007. This is US$3.84 billion (HK$30 billion) higher than at end-March, according to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
Financial Results for First Month of 2007-2008 Financial Year

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) had expenditures of US$ 2.25 billion (HK$17.6 billion) and revenue of US$3.1 billion (HK$24.2 billion) in April, the first month of the current 2007-2008 financial year , resulting in a surplus of US$846.15 million (HK$6.6 billion).

The Hong Kong Financial Secretary has re-appointed Dr. York Liao as a Non-Executive Director of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) under the authority delegated by the Chief Executive. The appointment will be for two years from May 26, 2007 to May 25, 2009.

Expansion of Investment Scope for Offshore Wealth Management Servicesby Banks on the Mainland

The China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) announced today that the investment scope for offshore wealth management services provided by commercial banks on the Mainland will be expanded to include equity investments, subject to certain conditions. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) welcomed the expansion and the CBRC's decision to use the Hong Kong market and Hong Kong authorized and regulated financial products and intermediaries to implement it.

Land Auction Yields US$512.82 Million

A plot of government land in the West Kowloon Reclamation Area was sold for US$512.82 million (HK$4 billion) by the Lands Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today. This is the first public land auction of the 2007-08 financial year

Hong Kong's foreign currency reserves stood at US$136.8 billion at the end of April 2007, according to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, up from US$135.4 billion at end-March 2007.
