Three-Year Action Plan on Shenzhen/Hong Kong Co-operation in Innovation and Technology
March 31, 2009 - Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs. Rita Lau, co-chaired the third meeting of the “Steering Group on Shenzhen/Hong Kong Co-operation in Innovation and Technology” with Science and Technology Adviser to the Mayor of the Shenzhen Municipal Government and Chairman of the Shenzhen side, Mr. Liu Yingli, in Shenzhen today.
Financial Results for the First 11 Months of 2008-2009 Financial Year
March 31, 2009 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced today its financial results for the 11 months ended February 28, 2009.
Hong Kong Exchange Fund Totals US$193.48 Billion
March 27, 2009 - Total assets of the Hong Kong Exchange Fund amounted to HK$1,509.2 billion (US$193.48 billion) on February 28, 2009. This is HK$41.1 billion (US$5.26 billion) lower than at the end of January 2009, according to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
Hong Kong Monetary Authority to Continue the Provision of Liquidity Assistance to Banks
March 26, 2009 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that it will continue to conduct foreign-exchange (forex) swap and term repo under its market operations to provide Hong Kong-dollar liquidity assistance to licensed banks, if needed, after the five temporary measures for providing liquidity assistance, which were introduced on September 30, 2008, expire on March 31, 2009.
Hong Kong Officials to Attend G20 Summit as Chinese Delegation Members
March 26, 2009 - Hong Kong Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Financial Services), Ms. Au King-chi, representing the Financial Secretary, Mr. John C. Tsang, will attend the G20 Leaders Summit together with the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Mr. Joseph Yam, in London on April 2. They will join as members of the Chinese delegation.

March 25, 2009 - About 200 investors, distributors, producers and filmmakers from the five major Chinese language film markets of the Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia gathered in Hong Kong for the first time at the “Hong Kong Film New Action - Business Forums and Promotional Sessions” today to discuss making co-productions and developing markets through integrating the markets, talents and financing of the five places.

Hong Kong Consumer Prices Rise 0.8% in February
March 20, 2009 - Hong Kong’s overall consumer prices rose by 0.8% in February 2009 compared to the same month a year earlier, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures released today by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

Hong Kong Unemployment Rate Rises to 5%
March 17, 2009 - Hong Kong’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.6% in November 2008 - January 2009 to a provisional 5% in December 2008 - February 2009, according to the latest labor force statistics released today by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
New Arrangement on Capital Investment Entrant Scheme
March 13, 2009 - Hong Kong’s Immigration Department today announced that from March 16, a new arrangement would be implemented to shorten the processing time of applications submitted under the Capital Investment Entrant Scheme.
Contract for Preliminary Design of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Signed
March 13, 2009 - Representatives of the three sides in the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Advance Work Co-ordination Group signed the contract for the start of the preliminary design and investigation of the main body of the HZMB project in Zhuhai today.
Multi-Currency Cross-Border Payment Arrangements between the Mainland and Hong Kong
March 12, 2009 - The People’s Bank of China (PBoC) and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of multi-currency cross-border payment arrangements between the Mainland and Hong Kong (“cross-border payment arrangements”). The cross-border payment arrangements will go live on March 16, 2009.

Statistics on Vessels, Port Cargo and Containers for the Fourth Quarter of 2008
March 9, 2009 - Hong Kong’s total port cargo throughput in the fourth quarter of 2008 decreased by 6% compared to a year earlier to 61.3 million tonnes, according to statistics on vessels, port cargo and containers for the fourth quarter of 2008, released by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) today.
Hong Kong Foreign Currency Reserves at US$177.1 Billion

Hong Kong’s foreign currency reserve assets stood at US$177.1 billion at the end of February 2009, according to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, compared to US$181.7 billion at end-January 2009.

E-Services for Intellectual Property Registration Well-Received in Hong Kong
