October 24, 2011 - Garrett Popcorn Shops from Chicago opened its first store in Hong Kong’s IFC Mall today. For more than 60 years, Garrett Popcorn Shops has been dedicated to serving fine, handcrafted gourmet popcorn with a focus on great customer service.

Handmade fresh daily, one batch at a time, using the highest quality ingredients, Garrett Popcorn Shops started its business in Chicago in 1949 and has since gone global, with 22 stores located in New York, Dubai and Singapore. These Popcorn Shops have created enthusiastic fans across Asia, including China and Hong Kong, who are familiar with the unique gifts and treats from Garrett.

Chief Executive Officer of Garrett Popcorn Shops, Mr. Lance Chody, said, “Hong Kong is a world-class city and the perfect base from which to access the Mainland China market. We decided to open our first Shop in Hong Kong and others will be forthcoming to bring our signature flavors to our fans across Asia.”

We are very excited about this opportunity at IFC Mall. The shop in Hong Kong will create an opportunity to hire and train local employees to become a part of our business success,” Mr. Chody continued.

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr. Andrew Davis, welcomed Garrett Popcorn Shops’ opening in Hong Kong and said, “Hong Kong is Asia’s most popular city destination with 36 million visitors in 2010, including over 22 million from Mainland China, roughly two-thirds of the total. It is an ideal launch pad for international brands into the Mainland China market.”

“There is increasing consumer demand for high quality products in Hong Kong. We are delighted to have this renowned popcorn chain establish its business in Hong Kong and we wish it all success as it continues its expansion in our city,” he added.

Starting a business in Hong Kong, for companies large and small, has been further facilitated with the launch of the Government's electronic incorporation service in March 2011. The time required for company incorporation and business registration has now been significantly reduced from four working days to one.
