The 20th edition of Chicago’s Asian Pop-up Cinema (Mar 20 – Apr 12, 2026), proudly supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York, featured a compelling lineup of seven outstanding Hong Kong films, celebrating Hong Kong’s vibrant filmmaking scene.

This year’s festival opened with the North American premiere of the sports comedy “Pass and Goal”, directed by Jil Wong. This heartfelt underdog story follows a determined youth football team fighting for redemption. It stars acclaimed actress Gigi Leung, who attended Opening Night and received this year’s Extraordinary Actors Award. Both Jil Wong and Gigi Leung introduced the film and took part in a post-screening Q&A session. Additional festival guests from Hong Kong included directors Dickson Leung and Nic Ho, along with producer Ivana Lai.
