Financial results for the four months ended July 31, 2017
August 31, 2017 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced today its financial results for the four months ended July 31, 2017.

Hong Kong Exchange Fund at US$501.5 billion
August 31, 2017 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that the total assets of the Exchange Fund amounted to HK$3,912.2 billion (US$501.5 billion) as at July 31, 2017. This is HK$7.3 billion (US$935 million) higher than that at the end of June 2017. Foreign currency assets increased by HK$20.1 billion (US$2.5 billion) while Hong Kong dollar assets decreased by HK$12.8 billion (US$1.6 billion).

Consumer Price Indices for July 2017
August 22, 2017 - The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government released today the Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures for July 2017.

Free public Wi-Fi service launched
August 17, 2017 - At the Wi-Fi Connected City Building Wi-Fi.HK Together promotion day and commendation ceremony held today, the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) announced the launch of the Wi-Fi.HK pilot Public-Private Collaboration (PPC) project at government venues, signifying a milestone for the common brand Wi-Fi.HK.

August 17, 2017 - The Department of Justice (DoJ) today issues the following statement in respect of the Court of Appeal case concerning Joshua Wong, Alex Chow and Nathan Law (CAAR 4/2016):

Unemployment Rate Stood at 3.1%
August 17, 2017 - According to the latest labor force statistics (i.e. provisional figures for May - July 2017) released today by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 3.1% in May - July 2017, same as that in April - June 2017. The underemployment rate decreased from 1.2% in April - June 2017 to 1.1% in May - July 2017.

First Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage for Hong Kong announced
August 14, 2017 - The Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today announced the first Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong, which comprises 20 items. The Representative List will provide the Government with a basis for prioritizing resources and safeguarding measures for intangible cultural heritage (ICH) items, especially those of high cultural value and with an urgent need for preservation.

Second Quarter GDP Grows 3.8%
August 11, 2017 -The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government released today the Half-yearly Economic Report 2017, together with the preliminary figures on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the second quarter of 2017.

Asian Youth Orchestra launches 2017 North American and European tour in San Jose
August 4, 2017 - The Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) launched its 2017 North American and European tour in San Jose, California, today. The world tour began in Hong Kong and continued to Beijing and Tokyo before crossing the Pacific to California for shows in San Jose and Berkeley. The orchestra will then perform in the East Coast of the United States and later cross the Atlantic for a further 11 concerts in Europe.

Hong Kong master film director featured in San Francisco film series
August 3, 2017 - Johnnie To, a highly regarded Hong Kong film director, is being featured in Modern Cinema, a film series co-presented by SFFILM and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). Sponsored by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco (HKETO), this season of Modern Cinema, entitled “Johnnie To: Cops and Robbers”, is running from July 20 to August 6.

Austrian Logistics Giant Gebruder Weiss Opens New Office in Hong Kong
August 3, 2017 - Austria-based logistic provider Gebruder Weiss announced today the opening of a regional office in Hong Kong that will oversee the company's strategic development in the Pearl River Delta and capture the growing opportunities arising from the city's integration with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area.
