Emerging filmmakers showcased at this year’s Hong Kong Cinema in San Francisco
September 28, 2018 - The eighth annual Hong Kong Cinema, presented by SFFILM in partnership with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco, the United States will showcase works by Hong Kong’s emerging film talents. The festival opened this evening (September 28, San Francisco time) with “Tomorrow Is Another Day”, the first feature film directed and written by screenwriter Chan Tai-lee. Of the seven movies in this year’s line-up, five were directed by new directors and rising stars.

September 21, 2018 - Hong Kong Chief Executive has accepted the recommendations of the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal to extend the term of office of two non-permanent judges of the Court of Final Appeal for a period of three years, consisting of one non-permanent Hong Kong judge and one non-permanent judge from another common law jurisdiction:

Unemployment rate remains at 2.8%
September 18, 2018 - According to the latest labor force statistics (i.e. provisional figures for June - August 2018) released today by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 2.8% in June - August 2018, same as that in May - July 2018. The underemployment rate also remained unchanged at 1.1% in the two periods.

New "Visit Hong Kong" website launched
September 17, 2018 - The Tourism Commission of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has launched the first official landing page for visitors - "Visit Hong Kong" (visithongkong.gov.hk). It is aimed particularly at those just arriving in Hong Kong to help them access Hong Kong tourism information via mobile devices.

September 10, 2018 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced today the appointment of Mr Darren Straker as Chief Inspector of Accidents to head the new Air Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA). His appointment will mark the formal establishment of the new AAIA, which is under the Transport and Housing Bureau and independent from the Civil Aviation Department.

Fintech Co-operation between Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Central Bank of Brazil
September 9, 2018 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) signed a Co-operation Agreement to enhance collaboration between the two central banks involving fintech issues, with a view to encouraging and enabling innovation development in financial services in both markets, and supporting innovative financial businesses in expanding to each other's jurisdictions.

September 7, 2018 - The Chief Executive, pursuant to the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap 571), has appointed Mr Tim Lui Tim-leung as Chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) for a term of three years from October 20, 2018 to October 19, 2021.

Hong Kong’s foreign currency reserves at US$424.9 billion
September 7, 2018 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that the official foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong amounted to US$424.9 billion as at the end of August 2018, compared with US$431.9 billion at end-July 2018.
