Unemployment rate remains at 2.8%
April 18, 2019 - According to the latest labor force statistics (i.e. provisional figures for January - March 2019) released today by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 2.8% in January - March 2019, same as that in December 2018 - February 2019. The underemployment rate also remained unchanged at 1.0% in the two periods.

HKETO, San Francisco promotes Hong Kong films at 2019 San Francisco International Film Festival
April 15, 2019 - The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco (HKETO SF) and SFFILM are co-presenting two Hong Kong movies at the 62nd edition of the San Francisco International Film Festival. The Festival is running at venues across the San Francisco Bay Area from April 10 to 23.

IFC and HKMA strengthen commitment to green and sustainable finance through groundbreaking agreements
April 11, 2019 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, today in Washington DC, the United States to co-organize IFC’s Sixth Annual Climate Business Forum, which will be held in Hong Kong in early 2020.

Virtual banking license granted
April 10, 2019 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that the Monetary Authority has granted a banking license under the Banking Ordinance to Welab Digital Limited (WDL) for it to operate in the form of a virtual bank.  The granting of the banking license takes effect today.

USTR takes out incorrect statement about Hong Kong from its report
April 8, 2019 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has been notified that in response to its clarifications and follow-ups, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has taken out an incorrect statement about Hong Kong from the 2019 National Trade Estimate (NTE) Report which was published on March 29, a Government spokesman said today.

Hong Kong’s foreign currency reserves at US$437.9 billion
April 8, 2019 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that the official foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong amounted to US$437.9 billion as at the end of March 2019, compared with US$434.4 billion at end-February 2019.

Hong Kong Customs makes a five-year record seizure of suspected rhino horn under smuggling
April 6, 2019 - Hong Kong Customs yesterday (April 5) seized 82.5 kilograms of suspected rhino horn and cut pieces with an estimated market value of about US$2.1 million (HK$16.5 million) from a transshipment cargo at the Hong Kong International Airport. This is a record high seizure of suspected rhino horn under smuggling by the department in the past five years.

Financial Secretary to visit United States
April 4, 2019 - Hong Kong Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, will depart in the late evening of April 7 for a four-day visit to the United States to strengthen ties between Hong Kong and the US in innovation and technology (I&T).
