July 30, 2019 - Hong Kong Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, hosted a lunch for representatives of international and local chambers of commerce at Government House at noon today to exchange views with them on Hong Kong’s challenges and opportunities with a view to formulating policy measures that would better meet the needs of the community in the upcoming Policy Address.

External merchandise trade statistics for June 2019
July 25, 2019 - The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government released today the external merchandise trade statistics for June 2019. In June 2019, the values of Hong Kong’s total exports and imports of goods both recorded year-on-year decreases, at 9.0% and 7.5% respectively.

Appointment of Chief Executive of Hong Kong Monetary Authority
July 25, 2019 - Hong Kong Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, today announced the appointment of Mr Eddie Yue as the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) with effect from October 1.

Consumer Price Indices for June 2019
July 22, 2019 - The Census and Statistics Department released today the Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures for June 2019. According to the Composite CPI, overall consumer prices rose by 3.3% in June 2019 over the same month a year earlier, larger than the corresponding increase (2.8%) in May 2019.

Hong Kong team achieves outstanding results in first participation in International Biology Olympiad
July 22, 2019 - In the first time Hong Kong representatives have participated in the International Biology Olympiad (IBO), the team, comprising four student members, achieved outstanding results, winning one gold medal, two silver medals and one bronze medal.

Second Joint Conference on Advancing Hong Kong's Full Participation in and Contribution to Belt and Road Initiative held in Beijing
July 19, 2019 - The second Joint Conference on Advancing Hong Kong’s Full Participation in and Contribution to the Belt and Road Initiative was held in Beijing today. At the conference, the work launched by relevant Mainland ministries and the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to take forward Hong Kong’s full participation in and contribution to the Belt and Road Initiative after the first Joint Conference was looked at.

24th Annual "Made in Hong Kong" Film Festival Kicks-Off in Washington DC
July 19, 2019 - The 24th annual "Made in Hong Kong" Film Festival kicked-off yesterday night (July 18, Washington time) at the Freer Gallery of Art of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC with the premiere of the acclaimed film, Still Human, and an appearance by the film’s lead actress, Crisel Consunji.

Unemployment rate remains at 2.8%
July 18, 2019 - According to the latest labor force statistics (i.e. provisional figures for April - June 2019) released today (July 18) by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 2.8% in April - June 2019, same as that in March - May 2019. The underemployment rate also remained unchanged at 1.0% in the two periods.

Hong Kong team achieves encouraging results at International Physics Olympiad
July 16, 2019 - Five secondary school students representing Hong Kong achieved pleasing results at the 50th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), winning five silver medals. The IPhO aims at nurturing students who are talented in physics, as well as promoting physics education and enhancing contacts and co-operation among scientists all over the world. This year, the IPhO was held from July 7 to 14 in Tel Aviv, Israel, with around 360 students from 81 countries/regions participating in the event.

July 13, 2019 - Hong Kong Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, in Luxembourg yesterday (July 12, Luxembourg time), attended the Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).  He met with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Mr Xavier Bettel, and other financial officials attending the AIIB Annual Meeting to strengthen co-operation between Hong Kong and other places.

Companies Registry releases statistics for first half of 2019
July 8, 2019 - The total number of local companies registered under the Companies Ordinance was 1,381,924 at the end of June this year, according to the statistics released by the Companies Registry on July 7.

Hong Kong’s foreign currency reserves at US$445.6 billion
July 5, 2019 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today (July 5) that the official foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong amounted to US$445.6 billion as at the end of June 2019, compared with US$437.8 billion at end-May 2019.
