June 26, 2019 - The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has commended Hong Kong for its strong legal foundation and effective system for combating money laundering (ML) and terrorist financing (TF) following a mutual evaluation undertaken by member jurisdictions.

External merchandise trade statistics for May 2019
June 25, 2019 - The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government released today the external merchandise trade statistics for May 2019. In May 2019, the values of Hong Kong’s total exports and imports of goods both recorded year-on-year decreases, at 2.4% and 4.3% respectively.

June 20, 2019 - The United States Federal Reserve’s Federal Open Market Committee (US Fed FOMC) decided last night to maintain the target range of the fed funds rate at 2.25 per cent to 2.50 per cent.

Unemployment rate remains at 2.8%
June 19, 2019 - According to the latest labor force statistics (i.e. provisional figures for March - May 2019) released today by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 2.8% in March - May 2019, same as that in February - April 2019. The underemployment rate also remained unchanged at 1.0% in the two periods.

HKSAR Government welcomes Ministry of Finance’s issuance of sovereign bonds in Hong Kong
June 17, 2019 - The Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China announced today its plan to issue Renminbi (RMB) sovereign bonds totaling RMB15 billion outside the Mainland this year, of which RMB5 billion will be issued in Hong Kong this week. Details will be announced later.

US visual analytics software company seeks to help Hong Kong businesses capitalise on Greater Bay Area opportunities
June 13, 2019 - Tableau, a visual analytics software company from the United States, opened an office in Hong Kong today to meet the growing analytics needs of local businesses and help them tap opportunities arising from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The Hong Kong office will serve Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao.

Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Visits Washington
June 12, 2019 - Speaking during a visit to the United States, Edward Yau, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, said that the trade and economic relationship between Hong Kong and the U.S. is mutually beneficial and expanding. It is a relationship defined by the unique status of Hong Kong under the Basic Law, the city’s constitutional document, and its distinct qualities of the rule of law buttressed by an independent judiciary; a commitment to creating a pro-trade environment; and the free flow of information, goods and people, he said.

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development to visit United States and United Arab Emirates
June 6, 2019 - Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, will leave Hong Kong on June 9 for duty visits to New York and Washington, DC, in the United States (US) between June 10 and 14 to consolidate and strengthen economic ties between Hong Kong and the US. While there he will meet with US government officials and business and political leaders as well as representatives of think tanks. He will also attend an event in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham).

Hong Kong’s foreign currency reserves at US$437.8 billion
June 6, 2019 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that the official foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong amounted to US$437.8 billion as at the end of May 2019, compared to US$436.4 billion at end-April 2019.
