Hong Kong Exchange Fund at US$536.9 billion
November 29, 2019 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that the total assets of the Exchange Fund amounted to US$536.9 billion (HK$4,188.0 billion) as at October 31, 2019. This is US$5.2 billion (HK$41.0 billion) lower than that at the end of September 2019. Hong Kong dollar assets decreased by US$8.9 billion (HK$69.9 billion) while foreign currency assets increased by US$3.7 billion (HK$28.9 billion).

Hong Kong SAR Government strong objects to acts on Hong Kong becoming US law
November 28, 2019 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government today expressed strong opposition to the fact that the "Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act" (the Act) and another act on Hong Kong have become United States (US) law and deeply regretted that the US has disregarded the genuine concerns raised repeatedly by Hong Kong on the two acts.  The two acts clearly intervene in Hong Kong's internal affairs.  They are unnecessary and unwarranted, and would harm the relations and common interests between Hong Kong and the US.

HKSAR Government welcomes Ministry of Finance’s issuance of US dollar sovereign bonds in Hong Kong
November 27, 2019 - The Ministry of Finance has issued US dollar sovereign bonds totalling US$6 billion in Hong Kong, of which US$1.5 billion, US$2 billion, US$2 billion and US$0.5 billion in 3-year, 5-year, 10-year and 20-year tenors respectively.  This marks the largest ever US dollar sovereign bond issuance of the Central Government.

November 26, 2019 - The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) bagged two Winner Awards at the 19th Asia Pacific Information and Communications Technology Alliance (APICTA) Awards with its in-house developed nowcasting system.

External merchandise trade statistics for October 2019
November 26, 2019 - The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) released today the external merchandise trade statistics for October 2019. In October 2019, the values of Hong Kong's total exports and imports of goods both recorded year-on-year decreases, at 9.2% and 11.5% respectively.

November 20, 2019 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government today (November 20) expressed deep regret over the passage of the "Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act" and another act on Hong Kong by the Senate of the United States (US) Congress.

Unemployment rate rose to 3.1%
November 18, 2019 - According to the latest labor force statistics (i.e. provisional figures for August - October 2019) released today by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 2.9% in July - September 2019 to 3.1% in August - October 2019. The underemployment rate also increased from 1.0% in July - September 2019 to 1.2% in August - October 2019.

HKSAR Government hopes US Government would handle acts on Hong Kong prudently
November 15, 2019 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government today expressed strong opposition to the passage of the Senate version of the “Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act” and another act on Hong Kong by the House of Representatives of the United States (US) Congress. The two acts will not only interfere in the internal affairs of Hong Kong, but will also send an erroneous signal to the violent protesters, which would not be conducive to de-escalating the situation in Hong Kong.

Mainland and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Co-operation Committee convenes second meeting
November 15, 2019 - Co-chaired by the Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, and the Vice Minister of Commerce, Mr Wang Bingnan, the Mainland and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Co-operation Committee convened its second meeting in Hong Kong today. The Committee reviewed the work commenced after the first meeting and explored the way forward for economic and trade collaboration between the two places.

Government spares no effort in preparing for District Council Ordinary Election
November 15, 2019 - In response to media enquiries, a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government spokesman said today that relevant government departments and the Electoral Affairs Commission are now moving full steam ahead and devoting their utmost effort to preparing for the 2019 District Council Ordinary Election (DCOE) to be held on November 24, with a view to making the election be held as planned in a safe and orderly manner.

Hong Kong’s foreign currency reserves at US$440.6 billion
November 7, 2019 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced today that the official foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong amounted to US$440.6 billion as at the end of October 2019, compared with US$438.7 billion at end-September 2019.

November 6, 2019 - Following the plenary meeting of the Leading Group for the Development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area today, a series of measures is announced to promote the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area), including exploring the establishment of a cross-boundary wealth management connect scheme. November 6, 2019 - Hong Kong Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, attended the meeting of the Leading Group for the Development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Leading Group) as a member at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing today.  The meeting was hosted and convened by the Vice Premier of the State Council, Mr Han Zheng, to discuss and plan for priority areas of work for the next stage of the development of the Greater Bay Area.  The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Patrick Nip, and the Director of the Chief Executive’s Office, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, sat in on the meeting.

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development attends Informal WTO Ministerial Meeting in Shanghai
November 5, 2019 - Hong Kong’s Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, attended the Informal World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Meeting held in Shanghai today. During the meeting, participating ministers discussed their expectations and desired outcomes for the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC12) and the necessary reform of the WTO.

Department of Justice signed two MOUs at 3rd UNCITRAL Asia Pacific Judicial Summit
November 4, 2019 - Hong Kong’s Department of Justice (DoJ) signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Thailand and the United Nations (UN) respectively today (November 4) at the 3rd UNCITRAL Asia Pacific Judicial Summit (the Summit).
