Financial results for the five months ended August 31, 2019
September 30, 2019 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced today its financial results for the five months ended August 31, 2019.

Hong Kong Exchange Fund at US$533.7 billion
September 30, 2019 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that the total assets of the Exchange Fund amounted to HK$4,162.9 billion (US$533.7 billion) as at August 31, 2019. This is HK$25.3 billion (US$3.2 billion) higher than that at the end of July 2019.  Foreign currency assets increased by HK$40.2 billion (US$5.1 billion) while Hong Kong dollar assets decreased by HK$14.9 billion (US$1.9 billion).

External merchandise trade statistics for August 2019
September 26, 2019 - The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government released today the external merchandise trade statistics for August 2019. In August 2019, the values of Hong Kong’s total exports and imports of goods both recorded year-on-year decreases, at 6.3% and 11.1% respectively.

Government welcomes HKQAA’s Green Finance Certification Scheme - Green Fund
September 25, 2019 - The Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA) today announced the launch of its Green Finance Certification Scheme – Green Fund to provide third-party conformity assessments on green funds, encourage more investors from the fund market to support green projects and enhance the transparency of the investment process.

EMSD receives another award from Association of Energy Engineers in US
September 25, 2019 - The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) received on September 24 (Washington, DC, time) from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) the Regional Institutional Energy Management Award for the Asia-Pacific region, in recognition of the department's outstanding performance in developing, organizing, managing and implementing its comprehensive energy management program. This is the second time the EMSD has received the award, having previously been awarded in 2017.

Senior appointments of HKMC and HKMCA
September 20, 2019 - The Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited (HKMC) announces today that, the current Executive Director of the HKMC, Mr Eddie Yue, will be appointed as Deputy Chairman and Executive Director of the HKMC. The appointment will take effect from October 1, upon the retirement of Mr Norman Chan. Mr Howard Lee will be appointed as Executive Director of the HKMC. An up-to-date list of Board of Directors of the HKMC is attached at the Annex.

Senior Appointment at Hong Kong Monetary Authority
September 20, 2019 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that the Financial Secretary, on the advice of the Governance Sub-Committee of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, has approved the appointment of Mr Edmond Lau as Senior Executive Director with effect from October 1, 2019.

September 18, 2019 - The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) have today signed an Operational Agreement on the BIS Innovation Hub Centre in Hong Kong.

September 17, 2019 - The Bank for International Settlements published yesterday (September 16) the results of the 2019 Triennial Survey of Foreign Exchange and Derivatives Market Turnover (Note).

Unemployment remains at 2.9%
September 17, 2019 - According to the latest labor force statistics (i.e. provisional figures for June - August 2019) released today by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 2.9% in June - August 2019, same as that in May - July 2019. The underemployment rate also remained unchanged at 1.0% in the two periods.

HKSAR Government’s response to Moody’s announcement of change to Hong Kong’s credit outlook rating
September 16, 2019 - In response to the announcement by Moody’s Investors Service today to change the credit outlook of Hong Kong to “negative” from “stable”, while affirming the “Aa2” long-term issuer rating, Hong Kong Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, made the following comments:

Hong Kong team achieves outstanding results at International Olympiad of Metropolises
September 9, 2019 -
A team of eight students representing Hong Kong achieved outstanding results in the 4th International Olympiad of Metropolises (IOM). Hong Kong team won one gold medal, five silver medals and two bronze medals at the competition, as well as a silver award in the team competition.

Hong Kong Chief Executive Announces Withdrawal of Fugitive Offenders Bill
September 4, 2019 - The Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, today announced that the Hong Kong government will formally withdraw the Fugitive Offenders Bill in order to allay public concerns. The Secretary for Security will move a motion according to the Rules of Procedure when the Legislative Council resumes.
