Government issues Red Outbound Travel Alert on three regions in Italy and highlights public health risks under Red OTA on Iran
February 28, 2020 -
In view of the health risks arising from the COVID-19 outbreak in the Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy and Veneto regions in Italy, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today issued a Red Outbound Travel Alert (OTA) on the three regions.  Besides, the Government alerted the public about the outbreak of COVID-19 cases and associated health risk in Iran under the Red OTA currently in force.

Department of Health to strengthen health quarantine arrangements on inbound travelers from Italy’s three regions and Iran
February 28, 2020 - Following the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government’s announcement today on the Red Outbound Travel Alert issued on Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy and Veneto regions in Italy which cover Bologna, Milan, Venice and Verona in response to the latest situations of COVID-19 and that the HKSAR Government alerted the public about the outbreak of COVID-19 cases and associated public health risk in Iran under the Red Outbound Travel Alert currently in force, the Department of Health (DH) will also strengthen health quarantine arrangements on inbound travelers arriving from these regions.

Financial results for the 10 months ended January 31, 2020
February 28, 2020 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced today its financial results for the 10 months ended January 31, 2020.

Hong Kong Exchange Fund at US$537.6 billion
February 28, 2020 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that the total assets of the Exchange Fund amounted to HK$4,194  billion (US$537.6 billion) as at January 31, 2020. This is HK$65.1 billion (US$8.3 billion) lower than that at the end of December 2019.  Hong Kong dollar assets decreased by HK$46.9 billion (US$6 billion) and foreign currency assets decreased by HK$18.2 billion (US$2.3 billion).

HKSAR Government continues to assist Hong Kong passengers of Diamond Princess who are hospitalized or under quarantine in Japan
February 27, 2020 - A Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government spokesman today said that the Immigration Department (ImmD) and the Department of Health (DH) have reinforced their staff to Japan to continue to assist the Hong Kong passengers of the Diamond Princess cruise ship who are still in Japan, including patients who are confirmed to have contracted COVID-19 and hospitalized, and close contacts of the confirmed cases now under quarantine at land quarantine facilities.

Financial Secretary Unveils 2020-21 Budget
February 26, 2020 - In delivering his 2020-21 Budget today, Financial Secretary Paul Chan acknowledged that the budget was prepared against the backdrop of looming uncertainties in the global economy, the aftermath of local social incidents and the outbreak of novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19. Mr. Chan said that the most pressing tasks for the government are to control the epidemic and stabilize the economy.

External Merchandise Trade Statistics for January 2020
February 25, 2020 - The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government released today the external merchandise trade statistics for January 2020. In January 2020, the values of Hong Kong's total exports and imports of goods both recorded year-on-year decreases, at 22.7% and 16.4% respectively.

Department of Health strengthens port health measures on inbound travelers from Korea
February 25, 2020 - Following the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s announcement yesterday (February 24) on the Red Outbound Travel Alert issued on Korea and restriction imposed on non-Hong Kong residents arriving from Korea from entering Hong Kong with effect from 6am today (February 25), the Department of Health (DH) has immediately strengthened port health and quarantine measures on inbound travelers arriving from Korea. The measures are implemented in response to the latest situation of COVID-19 in Korea.

February 24, 2020 - In view of the health risks arising from the Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in Korea, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today issued a Red Outbound Travel Alert (OTA) on the country.

Third chartered flight taking back Hong Kong residents on board Diamond Princess departed Tokyo
February 24, 2020 - The third chartered flight arranged by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government to bring back the Hong Kong residents on board the Diamond Princess cruise departed Tokyo on February 23 at around 1.55am local time. It is expected to arrive Hong Kong at around 6.10am.

Second chartered flight taking back Hong Kong residents on board Diamond Princess safely arrived
February 21, 2020 - The second chartered flight arranged by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government to bring back the Hong Kong residents on board the Diamond Princess cruise arrived Hong Kong on February 22, at around 1.40am. 

Latest arrangements on Hongkong Post services
February 21, 2020 - In response to the latest development of the spread of the novel coronavirus, Hongkong Post announced today the arrangements on postal services from February 24 to March 1.

Government appoints directors to HKEX Board
February 21, 2020 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has appointed Mrs Susan Chow Woo Mo-fong, and re-appointed Mrs Laura Cha May-lung and Mr Benjamin Hung Pi-cheng as members of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) for a term of around two years from the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the HKEX in 2020 until the conclusion of the AGM of the HKEX in 2022. 

HKSARG enhances dissemination of anti-epidemic information through social media and online platforms
February 21, 2020 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government today launched a Telegram channel, "Hong Kong Anti-epidemic Information Channel", to disseminate the Government’s information on COVID-19 in a more direct and speedy way. In addition, the Government has, since early February, made use of various online platforms to centrally disseminate anti-epidemic information, including an Interactive Map Dashboard (Dashboard) and a thematic website, with a view to updating the public on the relevant information.

Chief Executive welcomes passage of funding application for Anti-epidemic Fund by Legislative Council
February 21, 2020 - Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, welcomed the passage of the funding application for the Anti-epidemic Fund by the Legislative Council (LegCo) Finance Committee today.

First batch of Hong Kong residents on board Diamond Princess cruise ship return to Hong Kong smoothly
February 20, 2020 - A total of 106 Hong Kong residents on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship, including the six persons who had completed quarantine at a facility in Saitama Prefecture and were permitted to leave Japan, arrived in Hong Kong from Tokyo safely on February 20 morning on a chartered flight arranged by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government.

Consumer Price Indices for January 2020
February 20, 2020 - The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government released today the Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures for January 2020.

Unemployment rate rises to 3.4%
February 18, 2020 - According to the latest labor force statistics (i.e. provisional figures for November 2019 - January 2020) released today by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 3.3% in October - December 2019 to 3.4% in November 2019 - January 2020. The underemployment rate remained unchanged at 1.2% in the two periods.

Government to impose mandatory quarantine on people entering Hong Kong from Mainland
February 5, 2020 - In view of the worsening situation of the novel coronavirus infection and the first local infection cases yesterday (February 4), the Government announced today that it will impose a 14-day mandatory quarantine on all the people entering Hong Kong from the Mainland, after taking into consideration the advice of the four members of the expert advisory group under the Steering Committee cum Command Centre. It is expected that the measure will further reduce cross-boundary flow of people between Hong Kong and the Mainland, thus reducing the risk of transmission and spread of the disease in the community.

Advance estimates on Gross Domestic Product for fourth quarter and whole year of 2019
February 3, 2020 - The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government released today the advance estimates on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the fourth quarter of 2019 and the whole year of 2019.

HKSAR Government further reduces cross-boundary people flow
February 3, 2020 - In response to the situation of the novel coronavirus infection and having considered the advice of experts, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today announced that the consolidation of control points must be taken in a more resolute manner in order to further reduce the flow of people between the Mainland and Hong Kong significantly.
