Hong Kong’s foreign currency reserves at US$475 billion

November 6, 2020 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that the official foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong amounted to US$475 billion as at the end of October 2020, compared with US$453.4 billion at end-September 2020.

Including unsettled foreign exchange contracts, the foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong at the end of October 2020 amounted to US$474.0 billion, compared with US$456.3 billion at end-September 2020.

The total foreign currency reserve assets of US$475.0 billion represent over six times the currency in circulation or about 45 per cent of Hong Kong dollar M3.
