Hong Kong SAR Government welcomes issuance of bonds in Hong Kong by Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government
September 24, 2021 - The Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government announced today (September 24) that it will issue offshore Renminbi (RMB) municipal government bonds not exceeding RMB5 billion in Hong Kong in October, which will be listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. The bonds will be issued in two-year tenor, three-year tenor and five-year tenor. The three-year and five-year bonds are green bonds.

Hong Kong rises to third place in Global Financial Centres Index
September 24, 2021 - Hong Kong ranked third globally in the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) 30 Report published today by Z/Yen from the United Kingdom and the China Development Institute from Shenzhen, rising by one place from the March issue of the index this year.

High-Level Meeting cum the Second Plenary Session of the Hong Kong/Sichuan Co-operation Conference held in Sichuan
September 23, 2021 - Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, and the Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, Mr Peng Qinghua, leading the delegations of the governments of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Sichuan respectively, held the High-Level Meeting cum the Second Plenary Session of the Hong Kong/Sichuan Co-operation Conference (the meeting-cum-plenary) in Chengdu, Sichuan, today. The Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Huang Liuquan, also attended the meeting-cum-plenary as a special guest. At the meeting-cum-plenary, both sides reviewed the achievements made since the last meeting and agreed on the directions for future co-operation.

Kat O Heritage Trail opens
September 23, 2021 - To mark the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) today opened the Kat O Heritage Trail in collaboration with Kat O village, further promoting the history, culture and intangible cultural heritage of Kat O and offering an in-depth travel experience to visitors.

Support measures under SME Financing Guarantee Scheme
September 21, 2021 -The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced today further enhancements to the support measures under the SME Financing Guarantee Scheme (SFGS). The maximum duration of principal moratorium for the 80% Guarantee Product, the 90% Guarantee Product and the Special 100% Loan Guarantee under the SFGS will be extended from 18 months to 24 months, and the application period for principal moratorium will also be extended to end-June 2022. The Government has also announced earlier an extension of the application period of the Special 100% Loan Guarantee by six months to end-June next year.

Terms of non-permanent CFA judges extended
September 21, 2021 - The Chief Executive has accepted the recommendation of the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal to extend the terms of office of three non-permanent judges of the Court of Final Appeal for a period of three years, consisting of two non-permanent Hong Kong judges and one non-permanent judge from another common law jurisdiction:

Extension of Pre-approved Principal Payment Holiday Scheme for another six months
September 21, 2020 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) together with the Banking Sector SME Lending Coordination Mechanism (Mechanism) today (September 21) announced that the Pre-approved Principal Payment Holiday Scheme (Scheme) will be extended for another six months to end-April 2022.

Government updates list of places of recognized vaccination records
September 20, 2021 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced today that it has concluded discussions with the Government of Iran to accept vaccination records issued by Iran as recognized vaccination records for Hong Kong residents who have stayed in Group A specified places under the mechanism. The Government will also accept the vaccination records issued by non-Group A specified places including Chile and New Zealand for boarding flights for Hong Kong by Hong Kong residents who have stayed in Group A specified places. The relevant arrangements will take effect at 0.00am on September 22 (Wednesday).

September 20, 2021 - The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government released today (September 20) the Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures for August 2021.

First elections held successfully after improving electoral system
September 20, 2021 - The 2021 Election Committee (EC) Subsector Ordinary Elections were held successfully. This is the first elections held after improving Hong Kong’s electoral system, symbolizing that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has reached a new milestone in the implementation of the principle of “patriots administering Hong Kong” in the political system to ensure that the power of the HKSAR is in the hands of patriots, thereby promoting the realization of good governance in Hong Kong.

Government will update COVID-19 vaccination records to meet international travel rules
September 19, 2021 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced today that the Food and Health Bureau is in the process of updating Hong Kong’s COVID-19 vaccination records with a view to meeting international travel rules, including the latest requirements on vaccination records by the Government of the United Kingdom (UK).

(hereafter collectively referred to as “Mainland financial infrastructure services institutions”), together with Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and Central Moneymarkets Unit of the HKMA and custodian banks of Hong Kong (hereafter collectively referred to as “Hong Kong financial infrastructure services institutions”), to collaborate in establishing Southbound Trading under mutual bond market access between Hong Kong and Mainland China (Southbound Trading under Bond Connect). Hong Kong once again ranked as the world’s freest economy
September 14, 2021 - TheThe Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government today welcomed that the Fraser Institute once again ranked Hong Kong as the world’s freest economy in the Economic Freedom of the World 2021 Annual Report. Hong Kong has gained the top rank since the inception of the report. Among the five areas of assessment, Hong Kong continued to rank top in “Freedom to Trade Internationally" and "Regulation”.

Government maintains most social distancing measures under Prevention and Control of Disease Ordinance
September 14, 2021 - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government will gazette the extension of the effective date of most existing social distancing measures for 14 days till September 29. Furthermore, the Government will introduce a new arrangement for fitness centers under “vaccine bubble” to relax the distance restriction among participants of training groups or classes of more than four persons.

ASEAN economic ministers welcome Hong Kong to seek accession to RCEP
September 14, 2021 - Economic ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states welcomed Hong Kong’s interest in seeking accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and considered that Hong Kong is well placed to add value to this free trade agreement, noting that Hong Kong has already established free trade agreements with 13 of the 15 RCEP participating economies.

Government accepts registration of non-local COVID-19 vaccination records through voluntary declaration
September 14, 2021 - With vaccination rates increasing around the world, the number of inbound travelers (including Hong Kong residents and non-Hong Kong residents) holding non-local COVID-19 vaccination records is on the rise. In view of the situation, the Food and Health Bureau announced today a new arrangement for members of the public to register their non-local vaccination records with the Government through voluntary declaration (Note). The new arrangement will facilitate these persons to carry and view the records in electronic format for their daily use in fulfilling relevant requirements under the local vaccine bubble (such as entering into premises which require proof of vaccination).

September 10, 2021 - The online ceremony of Cross-boundary Wealth Management Connect (Wealth Management Connect) in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) was held today, marking the official launch of the scheme which enables residents in Hong Kong, Macao and nine cities in Guangdong Province to carry out cross-boundary investment in wealth management products distributed by banks in the area. Officiating guests of the ceremony were the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam; the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr Ho Iat-seng; the Governor of Guangdong Province, Mr Ma Xingrui; the Deputy Governor of the People's Bank of China, Mr Pan Gongsheng; and the Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Huang Liuquan.

Chief Secretary attends press conference on development of Hengqin and Qianhai
September 9, 2021 - Hong Kong’s Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr John Lee, attended a press conference online organized by the State Council Information Office this afternoon (September 9) on the development of Hengqin and Qianhai. Foreign currency reserves at US$497 billion
September 7, 2021 - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that the official foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong amounted to US$497 billion as at the end of August 2021, compared with US$494.8 billion at end-July 2021.

Hong Kong SAR Government welcomes Ministry of Finance’s issuance of sovereign bonds in Hong Kong
September 3, 2021 - The Ministry of Finance announced today its plan to issue Renminbi (RMB) sovereign bonds totaling RMB20 billion in Hong Kong this year, of which the three batches are RMB8 billion, RMB6 billion and RMB6 billion respectively. Details will be announced later.

Sixth Belt and Road Summit opens
September 1, 2021 - The sixth Belt and Road Summit opened online today (September 1) with over 6,000 senior government officials and business leaders from more than 80 countries and regions along and beyond the Belt and Road registered for participation. The theme this year is “Driving Growth Through Fostering Regional and International Trade”.
